Designing With Web - Part 3: week 1

Reinforce road trips experience for families thanks to social networks

Group "5"

Project 1: Going on a family road trip!

Context

Road trips are a great way to discover new places, to bond with your friends and to create amazing memories. For families, road trips can also be a cheaper alternative to flight and hotel booking. It is actually currently a trend and more and more families are willing to experience it. However, even if there are already some road trip app none of them is specifically aiming families.

Create an app with recommandations on road trips for families from different geographical areas. Share the best activities with the community.

for travel inspiration
for valuable informaton
for greater road trip experience!

Target

Our goal is quite simple, we want to improve the road trip experience for families. We will do that thanks to a social network dedicated to road trips ans more precisely the activities you can do while hitting the road. Hence, our target is quite large. Any family going an a road trip who would like to have fun during the trip is more than welcome !

Service offered

Our project is about enabling families on roadtrips to find the best outdoor activities in the area where they are currently located.

For that, we want to create a map whose design will be based on Google Map or Plans (ios).
The map will be interactive and will allow the user to discover new activities and beautiful places while being on the road.
By clicking on the dots marked on the map, the user will be able to see hte kind of activity available at the location, pictures and comments of people to already experienced it. As the main target is families, all types of outdoor activities will be referenced on our map : extreme sports but also more chill activities like conoeing. Finally, the user will so be able to look fo specific activities around him using a search bar.

Project 2: FamilyTrack

Context

According The Alamo Rent A Car Family Travel Trends 2019 Vacation Survey, “Spending quality time as a family” remains the No. 1 benefit of traveling together as a family. In fact, travelling in family is a current trend. However, in a society were information spreads everywhere instantly, it is getting more and more hard to choose the place we want to go. We don’t know how to make a choice and we don’t know who we can trust.
Nearly half (49 percent) of families indicate they’ve decided where to go or what to do on vacation based on the pictures they’ve seen on social media, up 10 percentage points from a year ago (The Alamo Rent A Car Family Travel Trends 2019 Vacation Survey). Because we want the best destination and the best pictures, we often compare ourselves to others.
Though 90 percent of families say they personally enjoy planning family vacations, most (59 percent) only plan “the basics” and tend to leave other things for spontaneous decisions. That’s how we got the idea of creating a community site for families sharing their roadtrip experiences (pictures, videos, information…) thanks to instant geo-tracking.

Target

This app is aimed at families willing to go on roadtrips around the world. It will be easy to use so that kids and adults will get the opportunity to participate. We can segment two main targets. The first group is families motivated to share their experience, their track with people. The second group of users is families needing inspiration, advices for their travel. It can be a way to plan a trip or to improvise during a trip when families will see what others are doing.

Service offered

what? how?

We offer an application with a geolocation in real time, allowing the family but also to any other users of the application to follow their road trip. Through a route first, but also through photos that families will post at different stages of their journey. These photos will be accompanied by a short text describing the place / time of the photo.
